Targeted, Grade-Appropriate, Personalized, Content-forward SAT and PSAT Preparation.

You can get a jump on the SAT as early as 8th grade.

  1. There is such thing as grade-appropriate SAT prep.

  2. Don’t wait until Junior Year to start prep, content and skills begins in 8th grade.

What if, instead of focusing on getting a perfect SAT score, we focused on being ready for what comes first?

Most people know that the College Board makes the SAT and AP exams. For some reason, the test prep industry overlooks an important component of the SAT suite of assessments: the intermediary benchmark exams knows as the Preliminary SAT.

“The SAT Suite of Assessments is an integrated system of tests that includes the SAT (for students in grades 11 and 12), the PSAT/NMSQT and the PSAT 10 (for grades 10 and 11), and the PSAT 8/9 (for grades 8 and 9). The tests measure the same skills and knowledge in grade-appropriate ways. They work together to show college readiness over time so educators, students, and parents can monitor student progress.”

APO provides comprehensive preparation designed to keep students well-prepared and on-target for PSAT benchmarks and ultimately the SAT exam through content-focused workshops and small group sessions customized to supplement and kickstart current on-level academic instruction.

Sign up for a Workshop Fall 2019

Session 1 | Mathematics

September 7 - October 5

Session 2 | Reading

October 19 - November 16

Sessions are designed for small Groups of 5-10 Students.

The mathematics session will be customized to each groups current math level.

Content-Intensive Workshops

APO offers 5-week workshops throughout the year to help students prepare for specific content areas. Workshops are intended for groups of 5-10 students and can be arranged as private small group workshops.

Reading and Writing workshops focus on adjusting to the reading level of SAT passages and practicing strategies that will aid in fluency and critical analysis.

Math workshops will be streamlined and customized according to grade level and approaching benchmark exam.

APO believes in adapting preparation so that it reinforces content being currently learned or reviewed in school. This way, students will learn to concurrently apply all content being covered in school in the context of the PSAT and SAT.

8TH & 9TH GRADE - PSAT 8/9

  • Heart of Algebra

  • Problem Solving and Data Analysis

  • Select topics in Passport to Advanced Math

8TH AND 9TH GRADERS WILL HAVE AT LEAST TAKEN THE EQUIVALENT OF PRE-ALGEBRA. ALL 9TH GRADERS WILL AT LEAST BE IN ALGEBRA, WHILE SOME MAY BE IN GEOMETRY AND A FEW IN ALGEBRA II.

The workshops will focus on topics that should also be concurrently reinforced in Algebra 1 such as applications of linear equations, inequalities, and functions.

10TH GRADE - PSAT 10

  • Problem Solving and Data Analysis

  • Passport to Advanced Math

  • Additional Topics in Math

10TH GRADERS WILL HAVE AT LEAST TAKEN OR BE ENROLLED IN GEOMETRY. MOST 10TH GRADERS WILL BE IN GEOMETRY, WHILE SOME MAY BE IN ALGEBRA II AND A FEW IN PRE-CALCULUS.

The workshops will focus mainly on topics in the Passport to Advanced Math topics that are easily translated from Algebra 1 to Algebra 2 as well as additional topics that are prevalent in Geometry: applications of quadratic equations and functions; solving and simplifying polynomial and rational expressions and functions; circle geometry; and trigonometric ratios.

11TH GRADE - PSAT/NMSQT

The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a phenomenal opportunity for a student to distinguish themselves from students in their grade. Workshops will focus on the most difficult questions on the PSAT and SAT:

Your school guidance counselor should be able to tell you exactly when your school is testing. If your school is not testing in each grade level, you should ask about options for having your student take the test individually. Only K12 educational institutions may order tests.

Content-Intensive Workshops

APO offers 5-week workshops throughout the year to help students prepare for specific content areas. Workshops are intended for groups of 5-10 students.

Reading and Writing workshops focus on adjusting to the reading level of SAT passages and practicing strategies that will aid in fluency and critical analysis.

For math workshops students should be at the same math level to be most effective. Math content will be streamlined and customized according to grade level and approaching benchmark exam.

APO believes in adapting preparation so that it reinforces content being currently learned or reviewed in school . This way, students will learn to apply all content being covered in school in the context of how it will be asked in the PSAT and later in the SAT. This should eliminate the need for future panic and anxiety closer to senior year.

8th & 9th Grade - PSAT 8/9

  • Heart of Algebra

  • Problem Solving and Data Analysis

10th Grade - PSAT 10

  • Problem Solving and Data Analysis

  • Passport to Advanced Math

  • Additional Topics in Math

8th and 9th graders will have at least taken the equivalent of pre-algebra. All 9th graders will at least be in algebra, while some may be in Geometry and a few in Algebra II.

The workshops will focus on topics that should also be concurrently reinforced in Algebra 1 such as applications of linear equations, inequalities, and functions.

10th graders will have at least taken or be enrolled in Geometry. Most 10th graders will be in Geometry, while some may be in Algebra II and a few in Pre-Calculus.

The workshops will focus mainly on topics in the Passport to Advanced Math topics that are easily translated from Algebra 1 to Algebra 2 as well as additional topics that are prevalent in Geometry: applications of quadratic equations and functions; solving and simplifying polynomial and rational expressions and functions; circle geometry; and trigonometric ratios

11th Grade - PSAT/nmsqt

The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a phenomenal opportunity for a student to distinguish themselves from students in their grade. Workshops will focus on the most difficult questions on the PSAT and SAT:

Determine the most suitable form of an expression or equation to reveal a particular trait, given a context.

Create equivalent expressions involving rational exponents and radicals, including simplifying or rewriting in other forms.

Create an equivalent form of an algebraic expression by using structure and fluency with operations.

Understand a nonlinear relationship between two variables by making connections between their algebraic and graphical representations.

Use function notation, and interpret statements using function notation. The student will use function notation to solve conceptual problems related to transformations and compositions of functions.

Add, subtract, and multiply polynomial expressions and simplify the result. The expressions will have rational coefficients.

Evaluate reports to make inferences, justify conclusions, and determine appropriateness of data collection methods. The reports may consist of tables, graphs, or text summaries.

Solve single- and multistep problems involving measurement quantities, units, and unit conversion.

Individual and small group tutoring

Tutoring allows students to play a more central role in directing their own prep.

Tutoring can be scheduled whenever at the convenience of the student for 1 hour increments. Groups of students will receive a per-person discount. Small groups are highly recommended for reading comprehension, as students will benefit from practicing the strategy with peers.
